Here at Fresh Air Farm, we never try to take away from the authenticity of the barn, but for larger parties we provide tenting for overflow seating. We can add a tent to the south side of the barn to create an extra room, or we can do the whole reception on the lawn in a large high peak pole tent. At the first sound of a tent some brides worry if it will take away from the character of the farm, but the truth is a tent is a blank canvas ready to be transformed into whatever you can imagine. Sweet Home Alabama? Modern? A Ballroom? A tent can project any of these themes with a little vision, some lighting, and the perfect décor.

Below are some ways that tents can be dressed up to create extra space while conveying the look you want.

Lighting

Lighting can make a huge difference in the feel of the tent. String lights and up lighting create a warm atmosphere that comes alive at night. You can also hang light fixtures that make the tent more of an intimate setting. This can also set the stage of your theme. Chandeliers for an elegant look, mason jars for a rustic feel, candles for a romantic ambience.

Draping

Draping fabric or having a tent liner, although expensive, can make a huge difference. The space goes from a standard tent to a luxurious affair. By making the poles no longer visible it creates an inviting space that your guests will enjoy.

Decor

Other decor that can be inexpensive and effective in dressing up a tent are things like pennant flags, paper lanterns, and other paper draping. This works well for receptions that are earlier in the day. Adding pieces that are hanging at different heights can help bring your eye down which gives the tent a cozier feel.

Furniture

Adding a seating area to a wedding tent always seems to draw the attention of guests. While catching up, or visiting with someone who’s not at your table, it’s nice to have a comfy seat. It also reiterates a more comfortable and inviting space. Outdoor seating has the same effect!

Sidewalls

Depending on the look you are going for in your tent you can choose to have an open air atmosphere, or if you want more protection you can rent sidewalls. There are options with and without windows. Sidewalls help make the space feel more like a room and also protect against the elements.
